JAMB: 10,000 candidates caught cheating in Anambra – Official

The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) says more than 10,000 candidates caught for examination malpractices in the UTME in Anambra have been handed over to appropriate authority.
Lynda Nwachukwu, the Coordinator of the board in Anambra, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Saturday.
NAN reports that the all computer-based testing (CBT) mode 2017 UTME, which started on May 13 in 642 centres nationwide, ended on May 20.
Ms. Nwachukwu said the examination, which took place in 28 centres in the state, was successful.
“There was no disruption of the exercise in any of the examination centres”, she said.
The coordinator said the candidates adhered strictly to the requirements of the examination, adding that JAMB provided all the materials required for the examination.

JAMB to watch UTME video footages to uncover cheats

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will watch recordings of proceedings in its Closed Circuit Camera Televisions (CCTVs) during the just-concluded Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB Head of Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement on Sunday, expressed confidence that such would enable it to detect where there were actually examination malpractices.
“Those who know they were involved in any acts inimical to our examination ethics should not celebrate as their inglorious days of punishment will soon surface”, he said.
“Again, we want to seize this opportunity to debunk messages being circulated by those who do not wish our education well that the Senate has passed a bill urging the board to add extra 40 marks to candidates.

JAMB: Police smash Akwa Ibom syndicate attempting to hack website

Eighteen male suspects are being quizzed by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for attempted exam malpractices during the just concluded JAMB examinations held nationwide.
DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, made this known in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.
He noted that the men were arrested on Monday 15th May, 2017 in a rented apartment at No.13, Lutheran Road, Ikot Ekpene, while trying to hack into JAMB Website to have access to exam questions.

JAMB: 59 inmates of Ikoyi prison sat for UTME

The Principal of the Ikoyi Prison School in Lagos state, has disclosed how inmates of the facility participated in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
59 inmates of the prison sat for the ongoing examination on Wednesday and Thursday.
The figure rose from the 32 that sat for the examination in 2016.
The Principal of the school, Idris Ibikunle, told newsmen that the candidates had a better preparation this year.
He said, “More inmates registered for the examination this year because they saw the urge to secure their future and prepare for reintegration after their prison terms. Many of them have realised that they ought not to be in prison if they were educated.

JAMB candidates protest inability to write examination in Kaduna

Prospective candidates for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in Kaduna Friday protested their inability to write examination in the various centers earmarked for the exams.
The candidates marched to the JAMB office expressing their dismay over the manner the registration was conducted.
The candidates also blocked JAMB’s office located along Tafawa Balewa Way.
The protesters also went ahead to block the entrance of the gate preventing vehicles from going in and out of the head office as they chanted various slogans‎, “We no go gree ooo, we no go gree, JAMB reshedule our exams.”
The candidates claimed they were unable to process their registration at the Computer Based Test centres (CBTs), due to insufficient facilities, lack of network and power supply.
They explained the hard time they went through in Kaduna just to write their examination and urged the federal government to revert to the old system of registration.
‎Speaking to newsmen, Paul Adoyi, a JAMB candidate said he was disappointed in the manner JAMB conducted this year’s exercise.
“I came all the way from Benue State since on Friday last week with the intention to write my exams on saturday; to my surprise, l am yet to write,” he said.
According to him it was better JAMB reverted to the old method as Nigeria was not ripe for the present system.

JAMB debunks rumours of marks’ deduction‎s

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied that marks are being deducted from candidates of this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement released in Abuja on Friday by JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the body said the rumour was “devilish”.
“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has urged all candidates who participated in the 2017 to disregard any information being circulated by mischief makers on the deduction of marks by the board.
